ABOUT THESE CALCULATORS
Getting quantities wrong on materials costs money twice – once on wasted stock, once on the wasted trip back to the merchant. Bricks, paint and plasterboard are three of the most commonly miscalculated materials on a job, mostly because the rules of thumb aren’t always intuitive.
These three calculators use standard UK sizes and typical waste allowances – 60 bricks per square metre for single-skin walls, roughly 10-13 square metres of coverage per litre of emulsion, and standard 2400 x 1200mm plasterboard sheets – to give a fast estimate for ordering.
They’re a starting point for quoting or ordering, not a substitute for a full take-off on larger or more complex jobs.
